OUR MOTIVATION
To ensure you're healthy and healing, without the hassle
THE PROBLEM:
In 2018, ~8.2 million people had some form of a wound (with or without infection) costing providers up to $96.8 billion.

WHY DOES IT MATTER?
Untreated or not properly treated wounds pose a huge threat to public health.
They can cause…
-
Infection → Leading to more doctors visits/treatment and therefore a higher cost for patients

-
Deficiency in barrier function → Leading to wound recurrence and therefore more treatment needed

-
Scarring → Leading to functional and psychological problems for the patient

THERMOD'S GOAL:
TherMoD’s goal is to create an over-the-counter (OTC), wearable medical monitoring device that utilizes thermoelectric technology to provide easily accessible information to the user and healthcare professional. By turning wound temperature into electrical signals, TherMoD can transfer this information into readable data that can help ensure that a wound is properly healing.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Thermoelectric generators are semiconductor devices that convert temperature difference and heat flow into a useful power source. They generate voltage that drives an electrical current that produces the power load needed.

The main component is a thermocouple - one n-type semiconductor and one p-type semiconductor connected in series by a metal.

Our device encompasses 8 of these thermocouple pairs (16 "legs" total" sandwiched between layers of PDMS, glass fabric, and a copper film.
